چکیده

2014 The anchoring strength coefficient B is measured as a function of temperature using a Freedericksz technique in a very thin (l 2.5 03BCm) surfactant-treated cell of methoxybenzylidene butylaniline (MBBA). In the nematic phase this parameter varies from approximately 0.065 to 0.013 erg/cm2 for TNI 20 °C T TNI. The relationship between B and the nematic order parameter is discussed. J. Director Structures in a Chiral Nematic Slab: Threshold Field and Pitch Variations

Abstract The liquid crystal director distribution is determined for a confined chiral nematic slab. The molecular director distribution of the field-controlled chiral nematic slab is directly calculated. The director profiles for the tilt and the twist angles, under different applied fields, are calculated in the slab with weak boundary conditions. Then, the dependence of the threshold field on...

سمت‌گیری مولکول‌های بلور مایع نماتیک در وضعیت دو بعدی و اثر چنگ زدگی‌های متناهی و نامتناهی

In this paper, the director distribution is calculated for a nematic liquid crystal, in the cell with different surface anchoring conditions and external fields. The effects of finite and infinite surface anchoring on molecular orientations for one dimensional geometry are discussed. In these situations, the planar alignment is considered. Then, in a two dimensional geometry the planar and homo...

Measurement of Azimuthal Anchoring Energy of Nematic Liquid Crystal on Photoaligning Polymer Surface

A method to determine the surface azimuthal anchoring energy of a nematic liquid crystal is proposed. The technique implies the measurement of the director deviation on the cell substrate as a function of strength and direction of the applied magnetic field. As an example, the dependence of the azimuthal anchoring coefficient on the exposure time is measured at the interface between the nematic...

Anchoring Energy of Mbba On

The temperature behaviour of the anchoring energy of nematic liquid crystal MBBA at the substrates with oblique SiO evaporation and director orientation at the interface have been studied by means of magnetic Fréedericksz transition technique. The temperature dependence of the coefficients in the phenomenological model of surface anchoring energy has been determined.

Azimuthal Dependence of Switching Field Strength for Nematic Liquid Crystal Bistability on Patterned Alignment Layers

We investigate the azimuthal dependence of the switching field strength for nematic liquid crystal bistability on patterned alignment layers to determine the validity of a switching theory proposed by Kim et al. [Appl. Phys. Lett. 78, 3055 (2001)] and to evaluate higher-order azimuthal anchoring coefficients. Director behavior during switching is described in detail for general azimuthal direct...
